Emma's Showcase

Ever since she was a child, Emma has always been sewing, knitting, crocheting, and generally creating something. Having done needlework at school, she went on to college for four years to study clothing, after which she worked for several years as a pattern cutter which involved patterns for a huge size range of each design. It was during this time that her tartan jacket design won for her the top tailoring prize in the BBC's 1993 Clothes Show.

One of Emma's early designs which she modelled herself - and showing her favourite form of transport!

Some early designs.

Cutting patterns is not as straightforward as it might seem because each pattern must be usable for many different sizes.

"Tea for Two" - Another fascinating design, this time for a waitress outfit.

A velvet evening dress with machine embroidered neckline.

A delightful day dress, modelled by Emma.
Emma made this dress from a sari she bought in a charity shop. The hem has triangles in triangles for added flare.

This was the design which Emma submitted to Liberty's in 1993 and which won her entry into the BBC's Clothes Show. She had three months in which to complete it.

On the left is the finished award winning jacket and here is Emma at the Clothes Show with the model who wore it.

A detail of the sporan.
Emma's English paper patchwork quilt, hand worked in Liberty silk scraps. Emma's red coat was inspired by costumes she saw in the televised production of Pride and Prejudice. Not sure, though, how it compares with the wet shirt!
Another of Emma's creations.

Emma's hat incorporates foam and knitting needles!

Fishy knickers - machine embroidered fish over bias tucked ground. Pink pants - machined in circles with hand embroidery in gold.
