Newsletter (3) January 2009

A very happy New Year to all our members

This is our third Newsletter and we hope you enjoy reading about the future plans of the group.

Requirements. Tricia has worked very hard to prepare a requirements list for each meeting of 2009 and if you have not received a copy please ask her for one.  We have a varied and exciting programme for 2009 and already planning 2010 – where did that decade go!?

Fund Raising. Our big fund raising event for 2009 is the bag auction on 4th April. If everyone would make a nice bag (or two) we will then auction them on that day. Browsing will be from 11am and the auction will start at 11.30. In order for us to label and list the bags please bring to the meetings on or before 7th March.  Don’t forget to bring your friends and family to the auction!

Workshops  We have two workshops planned for Saturday 13th and 27th June at the St Johns Centre Meopham. The reason we are holding them there is that the hall is more suitable for sewing machines. Jean Ball who we had as a speaker in 2008 will be the tutor on both days. Those who heard her speak will remember her 50 lovely quilts and her ten good reasons to make another one.  One workshop will be for machine patchwork and the other for hand sewing. On both days you will be making a small wall hanging. The cost will be in the region of £15 per day providing we have adequate numbers attending. We may have to allocate places on a first come first served basis and deposits will be taken in February to secure a place. A board is circulating at meetings so you can put your name down. More details later.

Search Press books. Don’t forget to order your Search Press books from Carole. You will get 25% discount and the group benefits by a 10% discount so everyone is a winner.  If you don’t have a current catalogue ask Carole for one.

Forthcoming attractions  The Knitting and Stitching show is on 8th – 11th October at Alexandra Palace. We will hope to run a coach again if there is enough interest. A board will start circulating soon about this.

Pauline Smith your talented leader will be a “Chorus Star” in the Gilbert and Sullivan opera “The Gondoliers” from 16th – 19th May in Hartley so make sure you keep a night free to go and ask Pauline for tickets nearer the time. Finally, Pauline’s claim to fame is that she was kissed on a bus by Alan Dedicoat, “The Voice of the Balls” – she is still recovering several months later!  Do you have a claim to fame you would like to share?

Happy Crafting and Stitching!

Carole (Hon Treasurer), Tricia (Projects Leader), and Pauline (Group Leader)
