Newsletter March 2008

Dear Member

Five months after setting up the stitching and craft group we have 48 paid up members. This is very exciting and we hope you are enjoying the meetings and activities. Our first speaker in February, Eliza McClelland, gave us a wonderful and entertaining talk on her work as an actress and beadworker.

Knitting and Crochet. We hope you enjoyed the knitting and crochet morning in February when 7 members learned to crochet. Please continue to make 4" squares in crochet and knitting which we can stitch together to make blankets for premature babies at a future meeting. These need to be in light colours but can be any stitch of your choice. Also make 6" squares in darker shades which we will use to make blankets for other organisations needing blankets for adults. We hope you had fun.

Volunteers. We have chosen to run the group with help from all members at meetings rather with a committee of a few doing all the work. Please offer your help with the door, sales table, refreshments, putting up tables and chairs. It would also help if at the end of the day each member stacked away their own chair and, if capable, help to fold down the table they were sitting at and return to the stage. Thanks very much to everyone who has helped so willingly in the last four meetings.

The future. We have an interesting programme planned for 2008 and speakers already booked for 2009! If you have a skill you would like to share with the small group please of up to 12 people please speak to Tricia (projects leader) and we can incorporate you into our programme. Don’t be shy to come forward and share your skills. As our numbers have grown so rapidly future stitching days will be run by dividing the day into say 4 activities each led by a member. We call this Four Corners one of which will be for UFO’s (Unfinished Objects!) with coffee and chat. Bring your unfinished work and join the UFO’s!.

Feed Back. We always like feed back from members telling us what you liked (or didn’t!), what you want to do in the future and any ideas you have that would help the group to succeed. We will be making name badges for members to wear at meetings and return at the end of the day, If you have work you would like to show then please bring along and at future meetings we will have a slot for "show and tell".

Thanks to everyone who bought the window plaques that Anna brought to the February meeting. We are pleased to tell you that we sent a donation of £15 to Ellenor Lyons Hospice.

We are considering running a coach to Alexander Place (Knitting and Stitching show) on Saturday October 11th. If there is enough interest we will get a quote from some local companies and discuss the costs at a meeting shortly.

And finally thanks to everyone who has supported us so whole heartedly in this new venture. We never knew until now much you wanted this group in Meopham!
