3rd July 2010 – Four Corners - Group Project with Tricia, Calligraphy with Carole and Embroidery on Lace with Sue

The pots which were painted last month were duly delivered, the dazzling glaze making a lovely splash of colour. They were quickly claimed by their owners and we are all looking forward to Tracey’s next visit in October when she will be bringing some Christmassy items for us to decorate.

Everyone quickly got down to work, somewhat quieter than usual, possibly due to concentration but more likely due to the heat.

One Corner tackled the embroidery and embellishment of the beach huts which Tricia had prepared for the next Group project. This looks as if it will be as colourful an affair as the previous two - the butterflies and the flowers. Two were finished by the end of the day, and the rest were taken away to complete during the summer.

Meanwhile Carole was instructing her Corner in the delights of Calligraphy - the basic Foundation style for beginners and Gothic for those who had tackled the subject before. It wasn’t long before some were even attempting the illumination of the initial capital too.

At the third Corner Sue was showing her enthusiastic students how to embroider on net - or Carrickmacross net as it is correctly named. She had prepared some small motifs so everyone was able to start straight away.

Sue had brought some sample pieces which she put on the Show and Tell table where there were already, amongst other things, four duck pincushions completed from last month and several beautifully embroidered greetings cards. It is so nice for everyone to share not only completed items started at earlier meetings, but articles and works of art done at home in between meetings.

A very productive and enjoyable meeting which thirty-four members attended and there were two visitors. This was higher than had been anticipated due to the excellent weather in this holiday season and especially because the Ladies Final was taking place in the afternoon at Wimbledon. There were also several local village fetes taking place today.
